Kibler Valley, Virginia

Yet another good day spent in Kibler Valley paddling with friends. This was the first "official" recreational release of the year and it brought a few more paddlers to the valley than I saw on my previous trips this year. It also brought a little more excitement. While playing around below PEII and at Basketball, I saw many paddling friends from a cross-network of clubs, as well as non-club paddlers. I also witnessed six OBEs, one deep brace and a combat roll. Add to that the other rolls I heard about and an additional OBE that I read about and I'd say Kibler provided lots of Independence Day fireworks. In contrast, Randy's nine year old son Jacob made his first paddle from the top with no problems whatsoever. After spending about thirty minutes surfing and squirting, I climbed up on the big rock at basketball and got to see some really nice boofs and surfing. I then joined my SRVCC friends, plus our friends Curt and Sharon from Asheville, on a paddle down to the church, where we capped off the trip with fresh watermelon, chips and homemade salsa. If this was my last run down Kibler this year, then it was a nice way to end a great Kibler season.
